General Info
Cart service includes:
- Carts; organic/green waste, recycle, garbage
- Once a week pick up and on all holidays
Note: Organic/green waste carts are in designated Fresno County tracts only.
Cart placement
- Please align your carts carefully at your curbside each week to assist Granite drivers pick up your carts safely and efficiently.
- Carts should be off the curb (in the street), 3 feet from other objects, 3 feet apart from each other and 6 feet from vehicles. There must be a 15 foot overhead clearance.
- Materials must fully fit inside carts. LIDS MUST BE CLOSED. Do not overload your cart. Tightly packed green waste and recycling can become lodged in the cart. This prevents the material from being dumped. Your cart will not be serviced.

Size of objects
Anything longer than the cart must be cut into 2’-3’ sections so that nothing will become lodged when emptying.
Responsibility
Customer is responsible for stolen or vandalized carts. Carts should be pulled in after pickup.

Items that can be put in organic/green waste carts:
- Green yard waste
- Food scraps
- Bread, rice, grains
- Bones & shells
- Coffee grounds, tea leaves
- Egg shells
- Floral trimmings
- Fruit, vegetable peelings
- Meat, poultry, fish
- Table scraps
- Food-soiled paper products (i.e., pizza box)
Items that can’t be put in organic/green waste carts:
- Bathroom tissues
- Foil
- Garbage
- Glass
- Grease
- Hazardous waste
- Liquids
- Metal
- Plastic containers
- Soil
- Styrofoam
- Animal waste (creates dangerous bacteria)
- Compostable/ biodegradable bags. (Only paper bags)
Tips—Organic/green
waste cart
- Wrap food scraps in paper towels, napkins, newspaper or paper bag.
- Freeze organic waste. Place in cart on pickup day. This slows down decomposition process & prevents odors.
- Keep green lid closed and out of direct sun.
- If you have organics in plastic bags or liners, do not throw plastic bags into organic/green waste cart. (Throw plastic into trash cart.)
Cleaning tips:
- Add yard waste to the bottom
- Add some vinegar, baking soda or lemon juice to reduce odors and keep bugs out.
- In winter, spray bin with cooking oil to reduce the risk of freezing waste to the sides of the bin.
- Always drain excess liquids from food scraps to reduce food odor.
- Always keep lids shut.

- Plastic containers
- Bottles (clear or green soda & water bottles), steel or tin cans
Items that can’t be put in recycle carts:
- Plastic bags
- Paper towels, cups and plates
- Styrofoam
- Wet garbage, food
- Plant products: leaves, cut flowers, dead plants, house plants, grass clippings, weeds, brush/shrubs, etc.
- Wood
- Dirt
- Fabric products: clothes, blankets, carpets, umbrellas
- Tarps
- Tires
- Plastic toys
- Oil or filters
- Diapers
- Pet hair or pet food bags
- Electronics: appliances
- Ashes

- Broken ceramics
- Food packaging, i.e., candy wrappers, chip bags & other
- Non-recyclable plastics:

- Plastic utensils
Items that can’t be put in
trash carts:
- Mattresses
- Hot ashes or coals
- Dirt, sod
- Wood & tree stumps
- Construction, remodeling or demolition debris
- Concrete or rocks
- Any highly flammable materials:
- Oil, gas, paint
- Propane tanks
- Any hazardous materials:
- Televisions, computer monitors & large appliances
- Car batteries
- Tires
- Pool Chemicals
- Pesticides
- Dead animals
